the surgery

B Boy was scheduled to get his tonsils and adenoids on Wednesday morning, August 26th.
My sweet cutie the night before surgery.
I survived waking up at 4:30 am to be at the hospital by 5:45. The first words out of B Boy's mouth were- "I'm nervous." He's nine, and smart and very curious. A day before the surgery, I found him reading the pre-op paperwork. He was satiated with the news that any IV would be started after he was sedated.
He was in pretty good spirits for the super early morning.
We checked in, got situated in our room and got him dressed in his surgery gear.
We had some downtime before the surgery. We loved on our boy and he played on the phone and watched TV.
Soon, it was time for them to come in and get him ready for surgery time. It was hard watching them wheel him away
During the surgery, we waited in the Ronald McDonald house in our hospital. It is amazingly nice! The surgery took about 30 minutes and then we had to wait about 20 more minutes before we got to see him.

I cried seeing him waking up in pain. It took awhile for the anesthesia to wear off. Once he was pretty awake, we started trying to get him to eat a popsicle and a slush.
After an hour or so, he seemed to be doing really good so they got us ready to discharge.
He loved riding in the wheel chair!
We got him a chocolate shake on the way home.
More on the recovery later.

NINE!!!

The Perseid's meteor shower rang in your 9th birthday.

"Momma, it's 12:01! I'm officially 9!" You excitedly told me!
The frogs, cicadas and cars serenaded us while we laid on the back patio to watch the "shooting stars." We saw a big awesome one at the start!

It's unbelievable that my baby is nine years old.
You are amazingly smart, sweet, and athletic.
You love Minecraft, Legos, Harry Potter, books, sports, family and friends.
You and your sister now buy gifts for each other on your birthdays and at Christmas.

You are both 9 years old until Sunday!
My little Irish (Italian) twins!
You requested pancakes with sprinkles for breakfast and for me to bring you Taco Bell at school for lunch!
You love to eat and you have tried many new foods this year!
(you eat tons of stuff. by new, I mean- onions, guacamole, sauces, etc.)
The Lego set that C Girl got you had pencil and eraser Legos in it!
We love you so much and we are so proud of you!

Happy, happy birthday sweet B Boy!!!

A big ole crying mess

I remember a day when the kiddos were very little and I thought, it is 3 more years until B Boy goes to school.  That seemed like FOREVER to me.
And here we are, the end of kindergarten.
I'll be honest.  I'm a crying mess.
Last year, I still had a preschooler that was coming to kindergarten.
Watching him graduate preK was hard, but oh, this is SO much harder.

After the volunteer breakfast this morning, I got to go to the Mother's Day program that his class had for the mommas.
Everything was good and fine through the songs.  I was happy.  The singing was sweet.
Then.
Then they showed the end of the year slideshow.
And this is what happened.

And please don't get me started on the fact that C Girl will be a 2nd grader next year.
2nd Grade????!!!
It just seems so old! And it goes too fast!
They are just not babies anymore.
I'm holding on to just a few words that they still say incorrectly.
I just can't bear to correct them.
They'll figure it out eventually right?!
these little guys are SUCH good buddies. I pray he always has wonderful friends.
And his teacher.  Oh, how I will miss her.  She was C's kindergarten teacher as well.  I've been around her weekly for 2 years!  It just won't be the same!
And I LOVE that our new art teacher this year was a mister.  The kids all ADORE him.  He's been a great addition to our school.
Oh my sweet boy, I love you too.
(excuse me while I go cry in the corner. NOTHING beats a writing like that.)
Please, oh please, still look at me like that when you are 25.
And yes, as a matter of fact, I AM 50 lbs!!!
These things kill me.
And I really die when he says I'm pretty as a diamond.
Ladies, this boy is definitely going to be a keeper.
Waaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

Word{y} Wednesday

I wasn't going to blog today, but then something BIG happened!

B Boy planted a few sunflower seeds in a little pot at preschool at the end of the year.

We honestly thought they would NEVER make it.

Lo, and behold, they kept hanging on.  They even kept hanging on through our drought and 100 degree weather.

Just a few minutes ago, B Boy was sitting at the table eating his snack when he yelled out, "Momma, look! MY sunflower!"

I saw what he was talking about and we went outside to get a closer look....
He is SO very excited and proud!
